This opportunity is ideally suited to someone looking to gain skills and knowledge within a transport/logistics environment and gain an apprenticeship to become a qualified livestock driver.

We are looking to recruit a Trainee to join our Transport team at the Halesworth Depot, offering an individual the opportunity to build a foundation of knowledge and skills within a busy transport depot, which over a period of time will include an apprenticeship to become a Class 2 LGV driver and then progression onto become a Class 1 LGV driver, with full qualifications to transport livestock.

Once fully qualified you will join our team of excellent drivers who predominantly work Monday to Friday on work patterns that include early starts, late finishes and occasional nights out. Therefore, it is important that you are self-motivated, dynamic and have a flexible and enthusiastic approach to learning and training.

Role & Responsibilities

Fully supported by your manager you will undertake practical and theory based training in line with an apprenticeship to eventually become a fully qualified Class 1 driver.

Shadow other LGV drivers to gain experience of livestock handling, collection, delivery and gain confidence/competence in vehicle safety and the operation of livestock trailers.

Learn about safe and fuel efficient driving techniques, tachograph legislation and drivers’ hours limits.

Gain experience in transport planning, accurate record keeping, pre-departure vehicle checks and vehicle compliance.

Develop confidence in communicating with others including farmers & colleagues.

Learn and experience the many sides to the business including farming, processing, administration, technical and supply chain.

Undertake livestock handling qualifications and other relevant training.

Key skills & experience

You must hold a clean valid UK category B driving licence.

Have GCSE functional skills (Literacy & Numeracy) at D, E or above.

Be able to act on own initiative and be an effective team player.

Demonstrate a positive attitude to work and proactive approach to learning.
