Based in East Anglia with requirement to travel

We are looking to recruit a veterinary technician to work as part of our large veterinary team in driving the highest standards of pig health and welfare on our partnership farms through the delivery of effective technical support. Responsibilities will include carrying out diagnostic sampling for laboratory analysis, post mortem examinations, carrying out veterinary fields trials, training out standard operating procedures and administering medicines where required. In addition, maintaining and evaluating data and working closely with our farmers to drive continuous improvement in animal health.

What we need from you

Part of our Veterinary team, you may be an experienced qualified Veterinary Technician or more recently qualified by degree or equivalent, with a real passion to learn within a supportive environment. Alternatively, you may have some husbandry skills and livestock knowledge and may have worked in a vet practice at a more junior level. If this is you, then we are also offering the opportunity to study a Vet Technician (livestock) Level 5 apprenticeship, alongside working in the role, subject to passing functional skills tests.

Regardless of experience it is essential that you have a passion for high animal health and welfare standards and strong communication skills with an ability to build business relationships across our farming community. In addition, you must have attention to detail, be committed to continuous improvement through carrying out root cause analysis and able to work independently in a fast paced environment. You must also have a full drivers’ licence as the role will involve visiting our farmers on a regular basis.

We actively encourage CPD which is paid for by the company, and there is good opportunity to attend conferences, as well as benefit from our development programmes.

BQP is the largest pig producer in the UK working with over 350 partnership farmers to supply high welfare, quality pork products to premium markets. Part of Pilgrim’s Pride Ltd, we are a totally integrated business and proud of our ‘farm to fork’ approach.
