Pilgrim’s UK has helped to provide more than 150,000 quality meal equivalents to The Company Shop to support those most in need across Bromborough and the surrounding area over the past twelve months.

Pilgrim’s UK has delivered the equivalent of 156,000 meals, including pork chops, mince and larger roasting joints, to The Company Shop, the UK’s leading redistributor of surplus food and household products, working with the teams at its outlets in Warrington and Runcorn as part of its ongoing partnership with the community enterprise.
The products are made available to purchase at a heavily discounted price for emergency services and food industry workers, and for those in vulnerable circumstances through its Community Shop.

The initiative forms part of the business’ efforts to support the local community while also preventing good quality surplus produce from being sent to landfill.
Julian Weeks, site director at Pilgrim’s UK, said: “Working with The Company Shop means that we can redistribute quality food to those who need it most. It also has the benefit of reducing the amount of food that is potentially wasted, which is an important part of our sustainability efforts.

“I’m proud of the impact we’ve been able to make in the past year and we’ll continue to look at ways we can support the local community and ensure everything we produce is put to good use.”

Pilgrim’s UK started production at its Bromborough factory in 2020. The site supports over 120 jobs in the local area and at the end of last year the business announced it would be investing significantly in the site over the coming months.
