Rachel Baldwin, VP HR, is once again lacing up her boots for charity with the aim of raising funds for Farm Africa in September by taking on the epic 80 km Mahale Mountains challenge in Tanzania. But Rachel needs colleagues to help her reach her fundraising target by donating via her JustGiving page.

In 2019 Rachel went to Uganda with Farm Africa, to plant 1,000 trees and raise much needed funds for the charity. But now she is gearing up for her next challenge walking more than 80km across the Mahale Mountains – taking 6 days and nights.

Rachel explained: “This will be an epic challenge and will involve camping overnight and trekking in temperatures over 32 degrees. But c ompleting this mammoth 80 km challenge means we will not only be making a difference to farmers in Africa but also supporting sustainable and gainful farming which will benefit the planet and people. This will not be an easy test, but I know all my colleagues are behind me and their kind words of support will help me reach the finish line.”

The small and remote Mahale Mountains National Park is found in the very West of Tanzania and on the shoreline of Lake Tanganyika.

More than half of the world’s extreme poor live in sub-Saharan Africa, the vast majority work in agriculture. Farm Africa provides training in the field to support smallholder farmers growing agriculture, protecting the environment, and developing businesses in rural areas. Rachel added: “I appreciate lots of people are facing tough times at this moment and making careful decisions, but I really appreciate any pennies or pounds you can spare – every donation will make a difference.”
