Pilgrim’s UK has been shortlisted for the Environmental Leadership award for our close work with the Company Shop in this year’s FDF Awards (Food & Drink Federation).

The FDF Awards are important to our sector, recognising and rewarding excellence for innovation, competitiveness and talent in the food and drink industry. Each year, companies from across the food and drink supply chain enter our awards, and over 500 guests come together to celebrate the winners at the FDF Awards ceremony.

Matt Dight, Head of Sustainability, explained: “This is amazing news and an award which recognises the efforts of our sites and businesses to redistributing food. Food waste can arise at all levels of the industry, including in manufacturing. We always do our best to reduce food waste and it’s a constant pursuit to reduce this number as much as possible by learning and adapting. But for what is regarded as surplus we want to ensure as much as possible goes to good use and helps people facing tough times.

“We work with Company Shop to sell on products which would normally be regarded as surplus – this includes food with a short shelf life, returns, food which is less aesthetically pleasing to the eye but is still good for consumption. We hope to look and grow more opportunities to expand our food distribution network in the future.”

Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony taking place on 21 September at the Roundhouse, London.
