Pilgrim’s UK has seen record demand for scotch eggs in the run up to the Jubilee weekend.

As Brits plan picnics and parties to celebrate the Jubilee, Pilgrim’s UK, which supplies into major retailers including Aldi, Co-op, Waitrose and Tesco, anticipates that 1.6million scotch eggs will go onto supermarket shelves during Jubilee week, having seen demand soar during May this year.

Pilgrim’s UK supplies meat products to Iceland, who recently launched coronation chicken bites for £2 each, and Tesco, who recently launched Tesco’s Finest Ultimate Scotch Eggs for £3.20.

The forecast comes as the food and farming business’ King’s Lynn site saw record volumes of products produced, manufacturing 2.7million packs of sliced meat during British Sandwich Week last week, approximately 80 tonnes above the sites average weekly output volumes – a 17% increase.

Tracy Charlton, Pilgrim’s UK Ruskington Site Director, said: “We’re seeing customers stock up their shelves with some of Britain’s classic food and drink in the run-up to the long-awaited Jubilee weekend. Some of our manufacturing sites have seen record demand in recent weeks, with scotch egg demand and sliced-cook meat products taking off in particular.”
