Pilgrim’s UK is proud share images news from our first #shelookslikeme event which saw 25 women from across the business meet in person, whilst over 40 joined online, for our inaugural networking and discussion session.

The event was part of our global campaign titled ‘She Looks Like Me’ which has been launched by Meat Business Women to change perceptions of careers in the meat industry – and encourage more women to join the sector.

Marie Kenny, Procurement Project Associate, helped organise the first event and said: “We have been planning this event for some time now and it was good to see so many inspiring women all in one room. Although some had to join online it did not take away from the buzz of the event.

“The industry has been crying out for such a campaign for a long time and I am thrilled we are now making positive steps forward. Our networking and discussions mean we can learn from one another, share best practice and plan for the future to help inspiring women go further.”

#SheLooksLikeMe showcases the breadth of roles and career options that exist in the meat supply chain. A first of its kind for the meat industry, the campaign aims to challenge stereotypes about working in meat and put a human face to the sector at a time when it faces increased public scrutiny and pressure to become more diverse. Last year, a report commissioned by Meat Business Women revealed women make up just 36% of the meat industry’s global workforce and hold just 5% of chief executive roles.

Rachel Baldwin, VP HR, also attended the event and added: “As much as times have changed there is still many stereotypes of the kind and style of person who works in the meat sector. Events like this are changing the way we all think of women within our sector and breaking glass ceilings. We want to encourage more women across the business to join our events and help spread our positive messages – look out for news for our next event.”
